SUMMARY:Lift Every Voice Oregon Rally Day
DESCRIPTION:At this rally\, we are crying out for common-sense gun safety measures to make our communities safer. Lift Every Voice Oregon calls on the Oregon State Legislature to pass legislation to ban the future sale of assault weapons and large-capacity gun magazines. \nStudents are back in class\, but our work is just beginning. During this short week of Legislative Days\, we call on our state leaders to help make Oregon a safer place to live\, learn\, grow\, and graduate without fear. \nThe rally will include music and speakers on the steps of the Capitol Building. Talking points and training tips for legislative visits will be available at the rally and online. Schedule a visit with your legislator before or after the rally. If you can’t join in person\, write a card or call your legislators\, telling them you want Oregon to pass common-sense gun safety measures\, banning the sale of assault weapons and large capacity magazines. \nMore information is coming soon at lifteveryvoiceoregon.com. Download flyer. \nSign up to receive the Lift Every Voice Oregon email about the Rally Day’s advocacy training and visits with your legislators.

SUMMARY:Our Voice\, Our World\, Our Future (Premiere Screening)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free premiere screening of “Our Voice\, Our World\, Our Future” — a short 20-minute film that explores the effects of climate change on low income communities in Portland\, Ore. \nOften unrecognized as a serious social concern in our region\, the film focuses on how climate change impacts the lives of Portland’s most impoverished and vulnerable people. Featuring two senior year projects\, “Our Voice\, Our World Our Future” gives voice to five senior high school students from Rosemary Anderson Alternative High School\, as they interweave their own stories with observations from community members and commentary from local healthcare professionals and emergency services specialists. A Q & A session with filmmaker Jane Turville and the students will follow the screening. \nThis project is made as a partnership between Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon\, Rosemary Anderson High School and Wagging Tale Productions\, LLC. We genuinely thank the East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District for generously supporting this project through their grant program. \nLimited seating. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; screening begins at 7 p.m.

SUMMARY:Canceled: “Signing Sabbath Weekend”
DESCRIPTION:You may have heard on the news about the Oregon ballot initiative that EMO is supporting to help prevent gun violence by banning the sale of assault weapons. With time already running short to collect the signatures needed to get our initiative on this fall’s ballot\, the Oregon Supreme Court sent our ballot title back to Attorney General Rosenblum. \nThe Lift Every Voice campaign has suspended signature gathering and will withdraw the petition from consideration for this year’s ballot. \nFor more details about the next stages of the campaign – and some inspiration about why we’ll keep working to end gun violence – watch the press conference held on June 28 at Augustana Lutheran Church.

SUMMARY:Road to Sheridan: Sunday Faith Response to Separated Families
DESCRIPTION:Clergy of ten Oregon churches have committed to participating in a Sunday worship service in response to immigrant children who have been separated from their families. We are asking all faith leaders and faith communities throughout Oregon to join us in Sheridan for this special moment of prayer-in-action. \nThe Sunday Service in Sheridan (called “The Road to Sheridan: Love Leads Us”) will include all the traditional worship elements (communion\, prayer\, music\, sermon\, etc.)\, but it will also include a direct ask of the Prison to allow ongoing clergy access to detainees so they can receive the pastoral care they need and have requested – and so that we can learn more about how they are being treated and whether or not they are being reunited with their children\, spouses and other family. \nNote that bringing your own chairs or blankets would be very helpful\, and packing your own sack lunch might be a good idea. \nThe service will take place just outside the Sheridan Prison. Main parking will be at Sheridan High School (433 S Bridge St\, Sheridan\, OR 97378)\, which is a little over a mile from the prison.
