SUMMARY:Community of Creation Learning Cohort: From cultural collapse to re-inhabitation
DESCRIPTION:This four-month study will offer a unique opportunity to reframe many of the environmental and cultural crises currently facing humanity\, while exploring the time-tested solutions offered to us by Indigenous Wisdom. Led by the Eloheh Indigenous Center for Earth Justice\, in partnership with Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon and EcoFaith Recovery\, this course will begin and end with in-person instruction from Randy and Edith Woodley (read their bios) onsite at the Eloheh Farm in Yamhill\, Ore. \nOnline classes will continue (October – January) on the first and third Wednesdays of each month\, with each “dinner discussion” reflecting on a different chapter of Randy Woodley’s Shalom and the Community of Creation: An Indigenous Vision. Through this process\, we will study the limitations and the breakdown of the western worldview\, examine the underlying values of indigenous wisdom\, and explore concrete strategies of “re-inhabitation.” \nSafety Note: Though we will look forward to gathering in-person during our opening and closing meetings at Eloheh Farm\, we will be observing an abundance of caution when it comes to social distancing. Please be prepared to observe strict protocols when it comes to wearing masks\, hand-washing/sanitizing\, and maintaining physical distance. Regular Wednesday meetings will all be held via zoom. \nWHO: This is a community for leaders who want to:\n> De-center whiteness and learn to include everyone at the table.\n> Learn from perspectives that draw from ancient wisdom.\n> Grow in understanding an Indigenous worldview and deconstruct their Western worldview.\n> Learn a theology of place.>\n> Receive the opportunity to be mentored by an Indigenous leader\, activist\, scholar\, distinguished speaker\, wisdom keeper\, theologian\, and farmer. \nWe need leaders that are not recreating old systems\, but learning decolonized and Indigenized ways of leading. Historically Christian have been formed in white supremacy and settler colonialism – we need a new DNA introduced into these systems in order to move forward in a sustainable and just way. \n  \nApply for the Community of Creation Learning Cohort. \n  \nREGISTRATION: $1\,000 donation to Eloheh Indigenous Center for Earth Justice. (Scholarship assistance can be requested through our online application form.)\nNOTE: All proceeds will go toward re-building Eloheh Indigenous Center for Earth Justice / Eloheh Farm. All facilitators\, including Randy & Edith\, are donating their time. So that we can accommodate as many participants as possible\, we encourage those who can pay more do so as a contribution to our scholarship fund. \n\nSCHEDULE\nSunday\, Sept. 27\, 2 – 5 p.m. In-Person Instruction and Opening Ceremony with Randy & Edith Woodley at Eloheh Indigenous Center for Earth Justice near Yamhill\, Ore. Homework in Advance: Read the forward\, preface\, and introduction of Shalom and the Community of Creation. SUMMARY:Expanding Emotional Intelligence (virtual workshop)
DESCRIPTION:We live in a society where most of us have never had any formal education about emotions – let’s change that! We’ll learn what emotions are\, how they work\, and how to deal more effectively with our own emotions and other people’s. Other topics include mind/body connection\, “good/bad” emotions\, thoughts versus feelings\, and how emotions relate to safety and danger. \nIf you have been told that you are out of touch with your emotions\, are “too emotional\,” or just want to understand yourself and your loved ones better\, come explore the world of emotions with a licensed therapist with 20 years of clinical experience. \nAbout Tod Fiste\, LPC: Tod is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s degree from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. He has been working with clients since 2000. He incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)\, mindfulness\, and personality theory in his work with clients. With most clients\, Tod pays special attention to relationship\, regardless of whether it is couples\, group\, family\, or individual counseling. This is because humans are fundamentally relational beings\, and relationships contain our strongest sources of both hurt and healing. And all relationships reflect and reveal your relationship with yourself. \nPre-registration required. Workshop fee must be paid at time of registration. Workshop fee is non-refundable: fee will remain a workshop credit for six months. The cost is $30 (Hardship scholarships available). Register online at nwcounseling.org/services/workshops or by phone at (503) 253-0964. A Zoom link will be sent day of workshop.

SUMMARY:Dining Out For Life
DESCRIPTION:Dine out (or take out) and support our partner restaurants! \nDining Out For Life comes to Portland every April. This year’s event did not happen as planned due to the pandemic. Instead\, we are holding a different event during the week of September 14\, focused on supporting our restaurants. We want to support them all the time\, but especially during this week\, as we highlight our generous restaurants who are struggling right now. We hope Dining Out For Life will be back in regular form next year\, but for now let’s show our restaurants our love! \nWe are not asking our partner restaurants to contribute to Dining Out For Life Portland this year. This event is strictly to support them. However\, if you feel moved and are able\, we will accept donations to Dining Out For Life Portland with the proceeds going directly to EMO’s HIV Day Center and OHSU’s Partnership Project. Our services have continued during COVID\, as have the needs of our clients. Please use the donation form below. \nThank you to our Dining Out For Life Sponsors: National sponsors Suburu and Ponaman Healthcare Consulting; local sponsors Grapevine Outdoor\, Lamar Advertising\, N2 Publishing\, The Oregonian\, Portland Monthly\, and Schoenfeld & Schoenfeld P.C. \nA special thank you to our Honorary Chair Rose City Pride Bands. \nAnd thank you to our partner restaurants: 3 Doors Down\, Bar Carlo\, Bridges Cafe and Catering\, Extracto Roastery & Coffeehouse\, Ford Food & Drink (now closed)\, Hale Pele\, McMenamins (17 locations)\, Peter’s Bar & Grill\, The Pie Spot\, Portofino\, Red Sauce\, Redwood\, and Rose and Thistle. \nWe also ask that you support all Black Owned Restaurants as you are able by dining in or taking out. SUMMARY:Facing the Challenges of Caregiving: A Workshop for Current and Former Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:It’s one thing to nurse a family member or friend back to health after an injury or medical procedure. But caring for a loved one with chronic or terminal illness can feel like too much to bear. Layer in grief\, guilt\, shame\, underlying relational issues\, or outside stressors\, and even the most committed caregiver can be overwhelmed. This workshop offers hope and help for both current caregivers and those whose caregiving has come to an end. \nThis workshop will be held at The Northwest Catholic Counseling Center. Participants must register and pre-pay $30 to attend. This can be done online at nwcounseling.org/services/workshops or by phone at 503-253-0964. Hardship scholarships are available.

SUMMARY:Hearing the Cries: Healing Injustice
DESCRIPTION:Hearing the Cries: Healing Injustice brings a holistic lens to being in relationship with our justice-involved neighbors: helping people of faith and goodwill\, in the words of Bryan Stevenson\, “get proximate” with those members of our society who have lived experience of the justice system. We hope to frame participants’ understanding of the “issue” of criminal justice as a matter of faith in action. \nAs people of faith\, we know that our communities bring together people beyond the labels placed on us by the justice system and wider society. We are more than victims\, offenders or community members—we may be all three—and our congregations may include all of us. But the ways the justice system brings people together—and keeps them separate—are different from the ways that a faith community brings people together. How are we to live together as a community? How do we resolve the inherent conflict in this existence as one body of many distinct members? \nSpecifically\, we seek to empower community in Restorative Justice\, stepping up to the responsibilities it has to those in the roles of “offender” and “victim\,” and taking accountability for the harms society has perpetrated and perpetuated. These harms include those created by a justice system that distances people from their neighbors and adds layers of harm instead of resolving conflict in a just way. \nWe recognize a theology of interconnection and interdependence. Our need for one another\, in mutually beneficial and healing relationships\, happens to be at the core of pro-social thinking\, as well. We also recognize the interconnection of criminal justice issues with public health concerns\, homelessness and housing inaccessibility\, human trafficking\, trauma\, recovery\, immigration\, and more. We are one community of many members facing diverse but interrelated challenges\, holding within us unique seeds of hope and resilience—and with one\, shared future. \nSCHEDULE\nFriday\, March 6:\n5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Screening & Discussion of film; open to the public and included in event registration.\nSaturday\, March 7\n9 a.m. Welcome | Keynote Panel\n10:45 a.m. Morning Workshop Session\nParticipants will choose one track for their focus: “Prison Reentry Support: How every congregation can be a welcoming congregation” or “Public Policy Advocacy: Toward a smarter\, public health approach rooted in restorative justice”\n12:15 p.m. Lunch provided\n1:15 p.m. Afternoon Workshop Session\n3:15 p.m. Closing Keynote Plenary\n4 p.m. Benediction and Sending \nOnline registration is closed\, but you may register at the door on the day of the event.
