SUMMARY:Facing the Challenges of Caregiving: A Workshop for Current and Former Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:It’s one thing to nurse a family member or friend back to health after an injury or medical procedure. But caring for a loved one with chronic or terminal illness can feel like too much to bear. Fear\, anxiety\, confusion\, disappointment\, uncertainty\, sadness\, and anger can sap emotional strength and undermine spiritual foundations. Layer in grief\, guilt\, shame\, underlying relational issues\, or outside stressors\, and even the most committed caregiver can be overwhelmed. This workshop offers hope and help for both current caregivers and those whose caregiving has come to an end. \nThis workshop will be held at The Northwest Catholic Counseling Center. Participants must register and pre-pay $30 to attend. This can be done online at nwcounseling.org/services/workshops or by phone at 503-253-0964. Hardship scholarships are available.

SUMMARY:Hearing the Cries: Healing Injustice
DESCRIPTION:Hearing the Cries: Healing Injustice brings a holistic lens to being in relationship with our justice-involved neighbors: helping people of faith and goodwill\, in the words of Bryan Stevenson\, “get proximate” with those members of our society who have lived experience of the justice system. We hope to frame participants’ understanding of the “issue” of criminal justice as a matter of faith in action. \nAs people of faith\, we know that our communities bring together people beyond the labels placed on us by the justice system and wider society. We are more than victims\, offenders or community members—we may be all three—and our congregations may include all of us. But the ways the justice system brings people together—and keeps them separate—are different from the ways that a faith community brings people together. How are we to live together as a community? How do we resolve the inherent conflict in this existence as one body of many distinct members? \nSpecifically\, we seek to empower community in Restorative Justice\, stepping up to the responsibilities it has to those in the roles of “offender” and “victim\,” and taking accountability for the harms society has perpetrated and perpetuated. These harms include those created by a justice system that distances people from their neighbors and adds layers of harm instead of resolving conflict in a just way. \nWe recognize a theology of interconnection and interdependence. Our need for one another\, in mutually beneficial and healing relationships\, happens to be at the core of pro-social thinking\, as well. We also recognize the interconnection of criminal justice issues with public health concerns\, homelessness and housing inaccessibility\, human trafficking\, trauma\, recovery\, immigration\, and more. We are one community of many members facing diverse but interrelated challenges\, holding within us unique seeds of hope and resilience—and with one\, shared future. \nSCHEDULE\nFriday\, March 6:\n5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Screening & Discussion of film; open to the public and included in event registration.\nSaturday\, March 7\n9 a.m. Welcome | Keynote Panel\n10:45 a.m. Morning Workshop Session\nParticipants will choose one track for their focus: “Prison Reentry Support: How every congregation can be a welcoming congregation” or “Public Policy Advocacy: Toward a smarter\, public health approach rooted in restorative justice”\n12:15 p.m. Lunch provided\n1:15 p.m. Afternoon Workshop Session\n3:15 p.m. Closing Keynote Plenary\n4 p.m. Benediction and Sending \nOnline registration is closed\, but you may register at the door on the day of the event.

SUMMARY:Safe Harbor
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to attend a performance of Mother of Exiles by the Resonance Ensemble. \nThe Mother of Exiles Project is seeking support to help give voice to people around the world who are in need of asylum. Mother of Exiles will be recorded in Prague in December 2019 and released by PARMA Recordings in Spring 2020. \nMany of us don’t have the temperament to run for public office or knock on doors. This project is the composer’s way of using music to honor the needs of people who have been dishonored around the world. Theresa Koon invites you to join her in this endeavor by visiting the link below. There\, you will hear excerpts of the music and find out how you can help support and promote future performances of Mother of Exiles at rallies\, campaign events and gatherings honoring immigrants’ rights worldwide. \nLearn more and reserve tickets.

SUMMARY:Say No to War: A Candlelight Prayer Vigil for Peace
DESCRIPTION:Our country is lurching closer to war. The values of faith we share call us to be peacemakers and live by faith\, not fear. However\, we have a President who is inciting violence on our border\, in our country\, and across the world. President Trump’s latest decision to recklessly assassinate the military commander of Iran will cause more violence and bloodshed in a region already facing endless wars. Read a statement from vigil organizers. \nToday\, January 6\, at 6 p.m.\, join us at All Saints Episcopal Church (4033 SE Woodstock Blvd. Portland) as others gather around the nation (even in front of the White House). We will gather as people of faith and goodwill to #PrayForPeace. We will hold a moment of silence for our world leaders and our siblings across our nation and world who live amidst violence.  \nWe must come together to pray for peace everywhere. The time is now for people of faith and goodwill to join together to denounce violence and embrace peace. \nWe hope you can join us on this evening.

SUMMARY:Radical Dharma: Talking Race\, Love & Liberation
DESCRIPTION:Be part of the conversation of our times: the truth about Race\, Love and Liberation. We are all swimming in a system of white supremacy that keeps us from fully realizing our humanity. To fully be in our humanity we must confront how we\, regardless of the color of our bodysuit\, wield the tools of our oppressor and break ourselves and each other down. Our freedom lies in seeking to liberate ourselves and discovering the essence of love\, connection and our sense of belonging. \nThis timely conversation that Rev. angel Kyodo williams invites us to sheds light on the truth of who we are. She fortifies us as she speaks truth\, addressing our painful racist history while pointing us to a path of liberation. Reckoning with how we benefit or are at the mercy of our current system of oppression\, and seeking to free ourselves in a manner that is not about the individual self but collective healing\, is the gift of Rev. angel Kyodo williams. Remembering the truth of who we are without the shackles of racism\, we are able to witness each other’s presence. Do not miss this important conversation and an opportunity to witness truth\, love\, and liberation in action. \nRegister online; $10-30 (no one turned away for lack of funds.
