PURPOSE: The Refugee Housing Coordinator will ensure effective delivery of housing-related services while maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. This role involves direct interactions with refugees, maintenance of broad network of affordable and appropriate housing options, and continuous partnerships with housing providers to meet all program requirements.
ACCOUNTABILITY: To the mission and goals of Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon (EMO) as determined by the Board of Directors, and as administered by the Executive Director and their delegates.
REPORTS TO: SOAR Program Manager
DIRECT REPORTS: None.
LOCATION: EMO’s SOAR program site.
CLASSIFICATION: Fulltime, non-exempt
*32 hours is considered full time at EMO.
BENEFITS: Salary starts at $27.43 per hour. All regular employees (does not include on-call or temporary) are eligible for vacation, holidays, sick leave, 401(k) retirement plan, employee assistance program and employee trainings. Employees in exempt positions or non-exempt positions that are 20 hours per week or more, also receive medical, dental, disability and life insurance, per eligibility requirements.
EMO has an organization-wide Pay Equity Plan (PEP). This PEP provides standardized increases to base pay for staff who have technical skills or specialized training beyond the minimum qualifications for a job, significant prior experience in similar roles, language skills relevant to the position, and/or who hold academic/professional degrees or certifications related to the role.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Arrange housing for newly arriving refugees which includes temporary and permanent housing solution.
- Communicate with current apartment complexes or rental properties about housing needs and issues.
- Research and build relationships with prospective rental properties.
- Assist refugees completing rental applications and signing rental agreement.
- Coordinate all utilities to be set up and or transferred to client’s name.
- Collaborated work with case managers regarding managing refugee’s resettlement grant.
- Assist Case Managers with furnishing apartments, find/delivery donated items for the refugee families. Keep record of provided donated items (Donation Breakdown list).
- Keep record of provided Household items (Home Supply List).
- Maintain comprehensive and timely case notes.
- Participate in Airport pick-up and providing housing orientation for refugee families.
- Attend SOAR staff meetings, EMO staff meetings,
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to work within the mission, vision, and ethics of EMO, and maintain an understanding of the services provided by the programs and projects of EMO.
KNOWLEDGE: Bachelor’s degree or significant professional lever experience. Preferably have a minimum of two years of experience in non-profit of social service work. Must be able to effectively work with colleagues and clients of diverse cultural and language backgrounds.
Must have the ability to use a computer and various software programs; Must possess valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability.
SKILLS: Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Treat all individuals with respect and dignity; Demonstrate high-level organizational and prioritization skills and a calm, professional demeanor.
EFFORT: Must be able to occasionally lift items of approximately 25 lbs.
RESPONSIBILITY: Ability to work in a respectful manner with people of diverse ethnicity, socio-economic circumstances, religion, culture and sexual orientation.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including evening hours and weekends; High tolerance for ambiguity and change.
