PURPOSE: To support EMO’s Public Health and Creation Justice Programs by delivering and installing climate devices, such as portable air conditioners, and educating program recipients how to use them. This position ensures safe, timely, and professional installations while maintaining accurate reporting and proper vehicle and equipment management.

LOCATION: EMO Core Office (245 S Bancroft St, Suite B, Portland) and residential settings in Portland, OR.
CLASSIFICATION: Full Time (32 hours/week), non-exempt.
TEMPORARY: Current funding for this position is expected to last approximately through July 31, 2026, depending on the rate of device installations in the upcoming months.
BENEFITS: Wage range starting at $28.38 per hour. Full time temporary employees are eligible sick leave, medical insurance, dental insurance, disability insurance and life insurance.
EMO has an organization-wide Pay Equity Plan (PEP). This PEP provides standardized increases to base pay for staff who have technical skills or specialized training beyond the minimum qualifications for a job, significant prior experience in similar roles, language skills relevant to the position, and/or who hold academic/professional degrees or certifications related to the role.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Track inventory of equipment and supplies and operate the EMO electric cargo van and other vehicles to transfer new equipment from warehouses to EMO offices for storage.
- Deliver and install climate devices, including portable air conditioners, according to the schedule set by the Cooling Coordinator.
- Communicate arrival times with recipients and provide education on proper use and maintenance of equipment.
- Complete installation reports and other documentation.
- Ensure the EMO electric vehicle is charged and cleaned after each use and perform routine maintenance and repair coordination, as needed.
- Communicate with Cooling Coordinator at the end of each installation day for any equipment and/or supply needs and submit signed waiver forms.
- Recycle installation materials and transport waste to recycling facilities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Commitment to the mission, vision and ethics of EMO, and ability to maintain an understanding of the services provided by the programs and projects of EMO.
Required:
- Valid driver’s license, evidence of insurability, and ability to drive a large electric cargo van.
- Ability to communicate clearly, efficiently, and professionally in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage respectfully with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and circumstances, including those who have limited English proficiency.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; with the ability to manage multiple installations and deadlines and complete timely and accurate documentation and reporting.
- Basic handyman and mechanical skills with strong attention to detail, particularly related to portable air conditioning installations.
- Ability to lift, carry, and install equipment weighing up to 75 pounds and safely navigate stairs while carrying equipment and tools.
- Comfortable working with a variety of tasks and people; and ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with Microsoft Bookings scheduling software.
- Ability to communicate verbally in a language other than English (Spanish priority).
RESPONSIBILITY:
- Ability to follow directions and protocols with minimal supervision while in the field.
- Good judgement about when to consult supervisor for decision-making.
- Self-motivated to generate recommendations for process improvements.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Flexibility to allow for a variable and inconsistent installation schedule, while maintaining reliability, punctuality, and proactive communication with supervisors.
- Work shifts occasionally include evenings and weekends.
- Ability to effectively work in a two-person installation team.
- Ability to work in a respectful manner with people of diverse ethnicities, socio-economic circumstances, religion, culture and sexual orientation.
- High tolerance for ambiguity and change and willingness to learn and adapt to changing procedures and systems.
