In December 1961, Black Nativity first performed off-Broadway, a first play written by an African American. This powerful production features traditional Christmas carols and new songs performed in a rousing and inspirational gospel style. PassinArt: A Theatre Company founded in 1982 is the longest-producing African American theatre company in Oregon. Their mission is to entertain, educate and inspire artists and diverse audiences while addressing critical issues facing our community.
Black Nativity performances will be held from Nov. 29 through Dec. 15, on Fridays and Saturdays, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., and on Sundays from 3 to 5 p.m. A special preview night show will be held on Thursday, Nov. 28, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm.
