Amplify Kindness! PDX
October 27, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Free and open to the public, although registration is required, Amplify Kindness! PDX will involve people of all ages, religions, ethnicities, genders, and more coming together, working side-by-side, and creating artistic tokens of kindness to take home and give away, anonymously (or not). This means neighbors might receive a red rose with an attached note of kindness on their doorsteps or the tops of their mailboxes. Strangers might find a painted rock with a message of kindness in a restaurant flower pot, a park bench, or even an elevator. Little Library users might find kindness bookmarks tucked into their next read. Ultimately, spreading random messages of kindness fuels a feel-good spark and a sense of community—for the giver as well as the receiver.
Supplies will be provided, but if you have them, please bring markers, pens, paper, and the like to use and share with others. No prior artistic expertise is required.
The Amplify Kindness! PDX event will begin with inspirational words from a few speakers including Sen. Elizabeth Steiner Hayward and Jan Musgrove Elfers, President of Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon. In a June Op-Ed article in the Oregonian on the antidote to hate crimes, Elfers wrote: “In addition to our prayers, we are compelled to act. Given the nature of this growing threat, we recognize that a more proactive response is required beyond the polarization and gridlock of our political system. We believe that the antidote to hate crimes is friend-making.”
Positive Charge’s Amplify Kindness! PDX basically is a proactive, “friend-making” event. We believe in the therapeutic value of doing something kind for another and that intentional acts of kindness generate bonds between people, help to build bridges of education and tolerance, and ultimately create peace in our world.
Please join us in our mission and AMPLIFY KINDNESS!
NOTE: When you RSVP for this event, please complete an RSVP for each individual who will be attending, so we know numbers and can plan accordingly. Thank you!
