Student Coordinator for Housing and Reengagement, Washington County, Second Home

PURPOSE: Second Home is a community effort to provide safe and stable housing for unaccompanied students, so they can focus on their studies, explore their gifts and talents, graduate from high school, and realize their goals and dreams for their life. The program is a partnership between our statewide nonprofit Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon, local school districts, Boys and Girls Aid of Washington County, local mediation centers, the business and faith communities, and concerned community members. The Student Coordinator for Housing and Reengagement provides coordination and case management for the Second Home Program.

REPORTS TO:  Second Home Program Director  

DIRECT REPORTS: None 

LOCATION: Washington County. 

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, 32 hours per week (*32 hours is considered full-time at EMO.) 

PAY: Range starts at $30.80 per hour. EMO has an organization-wide Pay Equity Plan (PEP), which provides standardized increases to base pay for staff who have technical skills or specialized training beyond the minimum qualifications for a job, significant prior experience in similar roles, language skills relevant to the position, and/or who hold academic/professional degrees or certifications related to the role.

BENEFITS: All regular employees (does not include on-call or temporary) are eligible for vacation, holidays, sick leave, 401(k) retirement plan, employee assistance program and employee trainings. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Meet with students regularly to determine the program fit for their situation and goals, establish supportive relationships, and connect students to educational reengagement resources and potential hosts. 
  1. Establish, nurture, and maintain ongoing relationships with partners, including school districts and community organizations, and inform them of referral procedures and program requirements. 
  1. Respond to student referrals in cooperation with Second Home Regional Coordinators. 
  1. Participate in brainstorming to problem solve alongside youth and assure youth are included in every step of the student support process by delivering person-centered services.  
  1. Work closely with the Home Provider Coordinators to support youth throughout their home sharing experience and help identify community resources that best fit the youth to maintain host placement. 
  1. Work with volunteer mediators to create student/home provider rental agreements. 
  1. Initiate and contribute to grant writing and fundraising activities. 
  1. Collaborate with teammates in strategic planning and program development. 
  1. Maintain financial records and submit reimbursement reports monthly. 
  1. Maintain accurate client-based records and enter updates into the database weekly.  
  1. Provide community outreach through speaking engagements, presentations, online and print publicity, social media, radio, etc. 
  1. Other duties as assigned.  

KNOWLEDGE: Degree in social work or related field or two years of related experience; Training in trauma-informed care. 

SKILLS: Able to work independently while maintaining a close relationship with team, supervisor and co-workers; Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen to and affirm people from a wide variety of backgrounds and circumstances; especially to treat all individuals with respect and dignity. 

EFFORT: High level of organization and prioritization skills; Candidate must have access to reliable transportation to scattered work sites and possess valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability. 

RESPONSIBILITY: Experience and comfort working with clients at offsite locations, for example: school or home visits, site visits, etc.; Self-starter. 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to work in a respectful manner with people of diverse ethnicity, socio-economic circumstances, religion, culture, gender identity and expression, and sexual orientation; High tolerance for ambiguity and change; Available some weekends/evenings; Available to work in the Washington County area. 

Desired QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Familiarity with community resources, particularly in Washington County. 
  • Experience in the non-profit world. 
  • Proficient in the Spanish language.
